On 25 September 2024, Hannes Snellman will join others in flying the flag for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), marking the ninth anniversary of the UN Agenda 2030. This gesture underscores our commitment to the Agenda and the SDGs.
At Hannes Snellman, we focus on two main SDGs: reduced inequalities and peace, justice, and strong institutions. Our Corporate Citizenship Team leads these efforts, ensuring our sustainability and ESG work is continuous and year-round. In parallel, our Cross-Practice ESG Team of experienced lawyers advices our clients in various sustainability related legal questions and helps them succeed in sustainable business.
Among our key sustainability and ESG initiatives over the past year, we:
- appointed our first Sustainability & ESG counsel
- launched a Sustainability & ESG Legal Trainee programme with Nordea
- supported the University of Helsinki in establishing a new sustainability law professorship
- started a Sustainability & ESG Legal Roundtable series for our clients
- hosted several events and published blog articles on a number of sustainability topics such as corporate sustainability due diligence, green washing, green transition investments etc.
- launched an internal leadership programme involving all employees
Among some of our recent engagements in sustainability and ESG, we:
- completed the UN Global Compact Business & Human Rights Accelerator programme
- participated in the SuomiAreena discussion on international expertise in Finland
- launched new partnership with The Shortcut, an impact-driven non-profit organization dedicated to bridging the gap between job seekers and companies in Finland
- participated in the Ecovadis assessment
- continued our partnership with Commu’s #1000tekoa campaign
- supported Oikismentorointi, a law mentoring programme
- organised a Celebrating Diversity discussion event
