Hannes Snellman Starts Co-Operation with The Finnish Esports Federation (SEUL)
19 March 2018
Hannes Snellman and The Finnish Esports Federation (SEUL) have started co-operation, with Hannes Snellman acting as a legal advisor to SEUL as part of Hannes Snellman’s corporate citizenship work.
“All signs point to esports, or competitive electronic gaming, rising to the big leagues both as a sport and in the entertainment industry. We think that SEUL is doing valuable work in promoting esports in Finland and in establishing a framework so that Finland could become one of the leaders in the field, whether in terms of tournament success or business-wise. Our co-operation gives us the opportunity to help in these efforts and also to develop the legal solutions that will be needed when the esports industry expands in the coming years. Our work with SEUL also lets us combine our expert knowledge in sports law with our strong emphasis on technology”, says Matti Tyynysniemi, an associate in Hannes Snellman’s Dispute Resolution practice in Helsinki who co-ordinates the work with SEUL and who is an occasional gamer himself.
SEUL President Joonas Kapiainen goes on by saying that “in the field of esports, it is our mission to understand and support the activities and growth of both the players and our members. As the field is gaining more and more ground, we have come to realise that what we need is strong expertise on both legal affairs and promotion of interests. By acting together with a strong partner that has the expertise and that understands our mission, we have a good chance of succeeding in the future.”
SEUL is the umbrella organization for Finnish competitive electronic gaming. The Federation’s mission is to improve and promote electronic sports and the activities of its members, and the recent developments include accepting esports as part of the Finnish Defence Forces’ Sports School curriculum and focusing on issues relating to legal affairs and promotion of interests.
