Hannes Snellman is further strengthening its real assets service offering by recruiting experienced energy law expert Meri-Katriina Pyhäranta as a counsel.

Meri-Katriina has extensive understanding of the energy market through several years of work experience in the energy field. She has actively participated in different energy working groups and in the future energy strategy and policy work that has been carried out at EU level. Meri-Katriina has experience in cooperating and negotiating with different interest groups in the energy field, including producers, traders, system operators, investors, governmental institutions, and landowners.

Prior to joining Hannes Snellman, Meri-Katriina worked at the Energy Authority, where she was responsible of monitoring market behaviour in the Finnish natural gas market from the regulatory point of view and contributed to developing and decarbonising the energy market both nationally and at EU level. Meri-Katriina has also gained experience as a researcher at the university and worked in private practice. She has been a visiting scholar at top US universities in the field of energy law and policy and holds a Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Eastern Finland.

We are extremely happy to welcome Meri-Katriina to our further expanding Real Assets Team. Her in-depth experience from the energy field will bring true value to our clients in their increasingly complex projects where energy regulation plays a pivotal role. I am confident that Meri-Katriina’s experience in strategic regulatory advice in this sector will be highly appreciated”, says partner Tapio Teräkivi, who heads Hannes Snellman’s Real Assets Service Concept.

I could not be more excited to join Hannes Snellman and its respected Real Assets Team. The energy sector is currently facing an enormous transition, bringing along new specific regulation both nationally and at EU level. I am very much looking forward to working with our clients and helping them navigate through the new requirements in the energy sector. Being able to work with highly talented colleagues and contribute to projects that enable the energy transition towards a more sustainable future truly feels like an extraordinary opportunity”, says Meri-Katriina Pyhäranta.

Hannes Snellman’s cross-border Real Assets Service Concept combines our offerings to the environment & natural resources, infrastructure & energy, projects & construction, and real estate sectors into a coordinated, multi-disciplinary advice to our clients.
