Partner Anna-Maria Tamminen’s Interview in Talouselämä Magazine’s Business Law - Biggest Law Firms Issue
26 October 2018
Partner Anna-Maria Tamminen was interviewed on international arbitration by Talouselämä, the biggest weekly business magazine in the Nordic region, for its Business Law - Biggest law firms issue.
In the article, Anna-Maria points out, among other things, that Finland has vast potential to develop its status as a suitable forum for international dispute resolution and international arbitration, and Anna-Maria is working to achieve this goal. “Finland has a natural geopolitical position, we are a full member in the EU, our political system is stable, Finns are skilled in languages, Finnair has quick connections to Asia, and the hotel, meeting venue, and restaurant selection is of a high standard”, Anna-Maria says. “In addition, we have a good and internationally recognized reputation working as mediators in challenging political environments. Martti Ahtisaari, Elisabeth Rehn, and Pekka Haavisto have created an internationally credible image of our capabilities to settle difficult disputes”, she continues.
Anna-Maria believes that one of the important steps in this process is to adopt the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Arbitration. The Ministry of Justice is currently investigating whether amendments to the current Finnish Arbitration Act from 1992 are necessary. Hannes Snellman has already earlier issued a statement to the Ministry of Justice in favour of Finland adopting the UNCITRAL Model Law on international arbitration.
