Corporate Citizenship at Hannes Snellman 2022

21 December 2022

At Hannes Snellman, we are involved in a wide range of initiatives related to corporate citizenship and sustainability by promoting with our expertise and resources values and causes that benefit our community. We work to improve diversity, equality, work-life balance, and socio-economic equality in several different projects and working groups both inside and outside our firm on a yearly basis.

Annual Donations

One of our traditions is to make annual donations to charities that share our values. The chosen causes reflect the UN Sustainable Development Goals we have identified as top priorities at Hannes Snellman: Reduce Inequalities; Climate Action; and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.

This year, Hannes Snellman, its partnership, and staff have donated over 220,000 euros to support humanitarian work in Ukraine. The donations were targeted to organisations, including UNICEF and the Red Cross, who are offering invaluable support to Ukrainians in the disastrous situation caused by the Russian regime’s shocking acts of war. In addition, we have supported Save the Children, who responds globally to major emergencies, delivers innovative development programmes, and ensures that children's voices are heard through their campaigning to build a better future for and with children.

In September, Hannes Snellman supported the Bavarian Peaks Challenge, a hiking challenge for a cause to finance a new school in Songea, Southern Tanzania. The challenge was established by the PATRIZIA Foundation. We also supported the Pink Ribbon campaign by making a donation to the campaign on behalf of each person who attended our events in October.

UN Global Compact

Since 2020, Hannes Snellman has been a member of the UN Global Compact Network, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative that supports companies in doing business responsibly by aligning their strategies and operations with the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact in the areas of human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption and by taking strategic actions to advance broader societal goals with an emphasis on collaboration and innovation.

Making Impact as a Law Firm

Political and economic uncertainty and rapid changes in our operating environment have increased the strategic nature of a lawyer's role and the size and challenge of assignments and emphasise the importance of ethical practices in a global environment. Human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption considerations are increasingly at the centre of our work.

Hannes Snellman has a heritage of serving the community: we started our corporate citizenship journey over a hundred years ago. For us, corporate citizenship and sustainability mean the practical realisation of our firm’s and attorneys’ and law firm professionals’ fundamental professional values.
