When did your career at Hannes Snellman begin?
I started working as an assistant in the Competition team in August 2006. In spring 2008, I was meant to go on a two-week “internal secondment” in the IT team to see how it goes. I had already been an unofficial “IT assistant” for my own team, and I was quite interested in the subject anyway. Around the same time, a spot on the IT team happened to open up and I transferred there permanently. In the beginning, my title was IT assistant, but it was later adjusted to correspond to my actual duties better, and so I became an IT coordinator.
How would you describe your typical working day?
The content of my days can vary quite a bit. However, a typical day includes a lot of problem solving. I tend to take care of a lot of problems related to the Office programs and Sharepoint, but as each team member does a bit of everything, the problems can eventually be nearly anything. In any case, they are more or less IT-related. In addition to my day-to-day duties, I hold orientation for new employees and different types of IT training for the whole office. My responsibilities also include staff’s mobile phone subscriptions and Sharepoint-related development projects.
How would you describe your team?
We have a great team and a good team spirit, and everyone is willing to help each other out. Within our group, everyone has a particular area of expertise, and everyone knows what other team members are best at. I could not wish for a better supervisor or colleagues.
What is the best part of your job, and what could still be improved?
The best thing about my job is definitely my team. I like the fact that I am able to do things I enjoy as a job, and at the same time, I can always trust my team for help if and when I do things outside my comfort zone. The best thing about the work itself is definitely the versatile nature of it, and I especially enjoy longer projects. On the other hand, solving a simple problem with Word can save someone’s day, which is also always nice.
How would you describe the Hannes Snellman culture?
Hannes Snellman takes good care of its employees. Over the years, the benefits, gifts, surprises, and fun activities have become so familiar, ordinary even, that I sometimes have to remind myself about the fact that these things should not be taken for granted. I greatly appreciate the small things, such as an ice cream at the end of a long and hot day, as well as the big things, such as flexibility in different situations in life.
