As an Associate Trainee in the Environment and Natural Resources Team

What types of matters does the Environment and Natural Resources team handle?
The matters in the Environment and Natural Resources team include assisting clients in different environmental law-related administrativeprocesses and investigations regarding, for instance, environmental liabilities, land use planning, mining law, and the energy industry. The team also handles transactions that concern the environment, the energy industry, or sometimes real estate, and provides counsel to foreign companies in matters related to Finland.

The team operates as part of Hannes Snellman’s Real Estate team, which consists of about 20 lawyers.

What are a trainee’s tasks in the Environment and Natural Resources team?
The main tasks include matter-related information search, investigations, and translations. The trainee takes part in weekly and other team meetings and events. The main working languages are Finnish and English, but Swedish is also used sometimes.

What qualities does your team value in a trainee and when recruiting a trainee?
Most of all, my team appreciates taking initiative, having a meticulous and practical approach to work, and being able to ask for help in unclear situations. Previous work experience from environmental law is not required, but a genuine interest towards the field and a willingness to learn are essential for a successful trainee period.
