Inka is a fourth-year law student at the University of Turku, and she is also studying computer science at the Aalto University. What is included in your role as a legal tech trainee? My role as a legal tech trainee includes a wide range of fascinating tasks all the way from researching existing legal tech solutions to assisting with building new ones. With the fast evolution of legal tech tools, particularly those incorporating artificial intelligence, I have also had the opportunity to experiment with and test various AI tools. Additionally, I have gained experience with legal documents through document automation and other related tasks. I think my precision and problem-solving skills have developed the most during my traineeship. What made you choose Hannes Snellman? My educational background in both law and computer science, combined with my interest in the intersection of law and technology, were the initial reasons why I chose to apply for the legal tech trainee position at Hannes Snellman. The role presented an exciting opportunity to use and develop my skills diversely. Additionally, the possibility to work in a reputable law firm was appealing, and I have not regretted my decision once! What should all law students know about legal tech? I believe all law students should acquire some tech skills as technology is becoming increasingly integral to legal work. The most important thing is to be open-minded and curious about technology in general. While it is impossible to know everything about the many different legal tech tools, a willingness to learn is in itself a significant advantage. When I began my traineeship, my knowledge of legal tech tools available was limited, but I have learned a lot in the short time I have worked here. Therefore, I think the most important thing is to acknowledge the fact that you will need technical skills now and even more so in the future. Can you share something about Hannes Snellman that is perhaps not immediately visible to the outside world? I think that the community is amazing here and everyone can feel a sense of belonging here. We have a lot of different social events and lectures that provide new information and opportunities to get to know our colleagues. In addition, one thing I did not know myself before joining the legal tech team is that in addition to using the existing technology we are building our own inhouse legal tech solutions. Overall, the innovative and welcoming work environment here is truly inspiring! One final question. Hannes Snellman co-operates with the Päätös podcast, which focuses on decision-making. What do you consider the most important decision you have ever made, professionally or otherwise? I think one of the most important decisions I have made in my professional life was to pursue a second degree in computer science. I have always been really motivated to learn new things and to expand my knowledge in different subjects. Especially, knowledge in the field of technology has been useful in many ways that I did not even think about before. Additionally, I believe my diverse educational background was one of the reasons I had the amazing opportunity to join our amazing legal tech team, which I am very happy about!
