Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility

At Hannes Snellman, we have a long history in serving the common good and continue to actively contribute our expertise and resources to a number of initiatives.

We are part of the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, the UN Global Compact, and have identified ‘Reduced Inequalities’ and ‘Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions’ as our focus areas out of their 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Client Work at the Core

The green transition, ESG, and sustainability form an integral part of our client work; we advise our clients in their efforts to meet their sustainability goals and the criteria set by stakeholders and regulators alike. This work encompasses mandates concerning renewable energy, environmental permitting, green financing, compliance, governance, and board role and liability, amongst others.

Pro Bono

We give back to society by engaging in pro bono work in areas where our expertise and time can make the biggest impact. Some of our longest pro bono partnerships include UNICEF, the Finnish Red Cross, and Suomen Partiolaiset – Finlands Scouter ry. We participate in the work of several foundations promoting culture, education, and social causes, such as the Mannerheim Foundation, the Stiftelsen 7:nde Mars Fonden Foundation, Commu, and Teaterstiftelsen Vivicas Vänner. We also regularly contribute to charitable causes by volunteering our time and resources, organising fundraisers, and donating money to causes that align with our values.

Our Working Environment

We continuously work to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our organisation. Leadership is at the core of our efforts, and we are committed to our jointly defined leadership principles: communication, development, encouragement, and presence. We regularly measure how we succeed in leadership and take action accordingly. We cherish an inclusive work environment and offer tailored career paths and solutions that promote work–life balance.

Academia and Legal Profession

We contribute to academia and the legal profession by participating in legislative development, lecturing at universities, and contributing to various academic endeavours such as mentoring the next generation of lawyers as part of Oikismentorointi. Many of our lawyers are also active in different committees and working groups of bar associations and other professional organisations.
